My Canvas

My yard is my canvas, full of all the possibilities I can imagine. It is a place for me to go, and leave the real world behind. When I look upon its empty spaces, I think of all the elements I want to add, the colors, the smells, the tastes, the sounds, I could spend hours sitting to pondering it. For the gardener in me winter seems to be my darkest time, but, when the first bits of spring begin to appear, a surge of new life runs through me, I catch myself rushing outside to find the signs of spring. I cannot help turning over patches of dirt to see what moisture is lying beneath, I love wandering around my garden, looking for signs of life. I find horseradish I thought I killed last year with signs of new growth, and scream with excitement, I give a little “HELL YEA” fist pump to the cat, who uneventfully yawns, stretches and rolls in the dirt. As I continue wandering, the signs of life are all around me, the lilac bush is budding, peppermint, sage, lavender and many bulbs are popping up through the soil. Little tiny green bits of life pushing away the heavy dirt that has contained it all winter, keeping it sheltered and safe. Spring fever begins rushing through my head and heart, I grab a note pad to begin drawing, laying out designs for new things to come in the garden.

Inspired by the signs of life, I notice they seem to mimic my own. While I have tended to the gardens of life around me, I have neglected my own for years. My garden reminds my that life is cycle, I need to remember when I am in the dark, brooding of my own winter, letting my soul go dark and dingy, that it is only laying dormant, and will spring anew again. I am blooming again, I will be stronger, brighter, and my roots will grower deeper.

My Home and my garden are finally beginning to reflect who I am, what I want in this life, and it makes me happy!

My spirit & soul grow restless inside, and want to bound out to the sunshine! Its taken a long time, the road has been so hard to navigate, but it has brought me here, closing one circle and beginning another. I am reminded of my of visit to the ancient site Newgrange many years ago. These people were connected to the earth, and each other. I saw the “Triple Spiral” art drawn on many stones there, and felt a connection to that art work. So much so that years later I purchased a necklace with its design that to this day brings me calm when I wear it. Newgrange felt like a temple, a sacred space, and now, as I look to create my own sacred space, it speaks to me more then ever. I sit in my garden thinking, dreaming, connecting, with all the things to come, thinking of all that has come to pass, and all that is present... it is all connected, like the triple spiral, we are all connected, it's beautiful.

My brothers favorite saying pops into my head as I sit in the shade of my pine tree, “if you can dream it, I can build it”, now is the time to build my dreams! Join me, dream to your hearts content, then build your dreams! Today, start making your life what you want it to be, you have the power!

Enjoy the few photos I have posted from this weekend!

These are some bulbs I planted fall, tulips, iris, crocus, hyacinth, and daffodils. I am so happy to finally have some bulbs coming to life in my yard, it makes me feel so happy!

This is the horseradish plant I thought I destroyed last season, but there are tiny sings of green life in the base of it, so I am hopeful that it will come back just as strong!

A blog about my yard would not be complete without a picture of HRH Artemis wandering about with me, this was just before he stepped into the bulb garden and plopped down for roll in them. Last year he bit the heads of my hyacinth when I was trying to get a pic of them, hoping he does not try that again. He would make a lovely muff if he tries that again...seriously Arty talk to Moose about when he dug in the garden :)

This is the layout for the new beds, and waaaay in the corner is the layout for the new shed. Its hard to imagine, but the fire pit in the center of the yard is gettiing filled in, I made out a spot for composting, and decided on a spot for the greenhouse! Now, all I have to do is get it done, HA! its going to be so wonderful! I can't wait for the possibilities to come to life!
